In August 2006, Wuxi Suntech Power spent USD 300 million buying MSK, a well-established Japanese solar photovoltaic firm. For the private sector, this was the largest acquisition of a Japanese enterprise in China’s history, matching foreign investment in China in terms of spirit and opportunity. MSK had 20 years of experience in solar energy, but Suntech had surpassed them in just five years. The deal caused a big stir in Japan.
